Epoxy Sealer for Concrete Floors

Some concrete floors are fine as they are for the health and safety requirements for a department in certain industries but many industrial concrete floors must be finished with a more suitable coating. In those cases, sometimes an off the shelf solution will do the trick if the requirements are not too stringent. Sometimes a site requires a custom designed and colour matched solution. At Reepol, we continue to develop a range of flooring systems that can meet any specification.

Before applying epoxy floor paint to a concrete floor, there are some general considerations to take into account in order to assure quality protection for your workplace. Whether the concrete surface is new or in need of repair, Reeprime EWD300 is a water dispersable epoxy primer and sealer and a good product with which to start. If you are applying it to new concrete, the concrete should be at least 28 days old or the moisture content less than six percent.

Reeprime EWD300 is a two-part epoxy bonding and sealing system that is solvent free. This makes it safe to use in areas that deal with food. Because it is water based, it is also nonflammable.

It serves as a bonding agent for a range of Reepol CBP flooring products that call for fail-proof adhesion to concrete. It has the capacity to adhere to sound, dry or damp substrates whether they are concrete, plaster, asbestos, wood, sand, or cement rendering.watch Ip Man 3 2015 film now

If the concrete is particularly dense, EWD300 can be thinned with water to guarantee maximum adhesion to the substrate. Before applying any sealant, the surface must be pristinely clean. A second coat should be applied within 24 hours. Ideally, the second application should happen as soon as the first coat is touch dry.

Once the primer and sealer is ready, a coating such as Reecote EC017 Clear can be applied. This comes in a 5.0 kilogram pack and the coverage is four square metres per kilogram. If you wish to have a decorative surface, Reecote EC017 clear comes as part of the Reeflec EC017 pack which contains EC017, EC017 Clear, and acrylic flakes. The EC017 is applied and immediately the flakes are broadcast. When the EC017 layer is cured, the excess flakes are brushed away and EC017 clear is applied.

Regarding Reecote EC017, it is a two-pack system. Both the curing agent and the resin must be thoroughly mixed together after adding the entire contents of the curing agent to the entire contents of the resin pack. Two to three minutes should be long enough for the two components to be properly combined.

Its pot life at +10ºC is 40 minutes. At +20ºC it is 30 minutes and at +30ºC it is 15 minutes. It is important to be aware of the temperature when you are applying this coating. Once the chemical reaction heats up the components, the coating hardens.
