Self-levelling resin floors are a very popular kind of epoxy flooring. This is no surprise because they are so smooth. They are called self-levelling because when the epoxy resin is applied, it spreads out into a level, smooth finish. An epoxy resin that is applied with a squeegee or roller tends to have a rougher finish. The completely smooth resin floor gives an overall larger and fresher appearance.
The seamless flooring is more hygienic because bacteria can’t get trapped in the seams which makes it ideal for areas sensitive to bacteria such as food preparation areas. Neither can dirt. Without seams trapping and holding dirt and debris, cleaning is so much easier. There is something that needs to be clarified about self-levelling floors. Don’t let the name fool you. Self-levelling resin will not level out an uneven substrate. The floor coating will be at maximum thickness not much more than 4 mm, depending on the product you use. It could be only 1 mm thick and this will not level out a bumpy substrate.
Look into using our standard resin screeds if the floor is extremely rough and bumpy. Among those ideal for this application are our Polyurethane screeds such as Reetop PU009 F.G, which is a heavy duty, trowel applied, fine textured screed, applied at a thickness of 6mm and 9mm, and Reetop ES008, a solvent free screed trowel applied to a thickness of 5mm to 10mm.
Primers and floor sealers can prevent problems with the flooring by preparing the cement before applying the coating. Reeprime EP550 is a moisture tolerant primer good for creating a damp proof floor. Its strength is as a primer creating good adhesion for poor quality concrete, strengthening it prior to the application of epoxy, urethane and MMA systems. It acts as a moisture barrier under moisture sensitive systems. It’s a clear coating over concrete. Reepol RBS80 is a cost effective general use binder that can be used as a concrete primer and sealer, for mortars and screeds, scratch topping, filling compounds, machinery bedding grouts, and binder for bulking prior to the application of finish toppings.
Our Reeflor range relates to our self-levelling products and they have been carefully formulated to achieve the desired thickness. They are self-smoothing, hygienic, hardwearing, solvent free, and have good chemical resistance.
Reeflor EL1001 is suitable for use where a hard wearing, dust free, hygienic, easy clean floor topping is required such as industrial or commercial floors, laboratories, car showrooms, and gangways. It is a blend of epoxy resins, curing agents and selected fine minerals. Easily mixed, it provides a 1mm (minimum) floor topping. The floor should be primed by Reeprime EP550 OR Reepol RBS80.
Reeflor EL002-SF is suitable for the same use as Reeflor EL 1001 and should be applied over the same priming material as Reeflor EL 1001. It is a thicker floor topping with a thickness of 1.5- 4.5 mm. It is ideal for industrial or commercial floors, laboratories, showrooms, schools, and plant rooms. It provides a 4 mm (minimum) floor topping. The surface should be primed with Reeprime EP800.
If the substrate is damaged, before the primer and sealer and the coating is applied the damaged areas should be repaired with a Reepare mortar.
